Patrick Campion, Chairman’s Bulletin Autumn 2019

Posted on Monday, 18 February 2019

Dear Members,

Welcome to the Autumn edition of your City Tatts Magazine. Please take the time to enjoy some of the wonderful content in this issue, from a wrap on last December’s incredibly impactful CTC/Rise Foundation tour to drought-affected communities to news on our improved reciprocal clubs deal and a trip down memory lane with Club legend, Ricky McVicar.

WHAT’S NEW?
2019 is off to a running start and Autumn is fast approaching. As I am sure you are aware, upgrades to our Club house are continuing at pace. The next quarter will see more impressive changes happening in our Club.

Firstly, there is exciting news about a partnership between City Tatts and Navarra Venues. Navarra Venues presently has five unique Sydney venues hosting a vast array of functions. It will now be arranging functions in our Lower Bar, assisting the Club to get maximum benefit from that special room. It will still operate as a Club bar as usual when not being used for functions.

All other function rooms will be booked and managed internally, with our staff working in Lower Bar both during events and normal trading times. If you would like to find out more about them, I invite you to visit their impressive website at navarravenues.com.au.

Meanwhile, the Dining Room opened its doors in early February. Thank you to all our Members who have enjoyed the fantastic cuisine to date and I encourage those who haven’t yet ventured in to do so. It is not Esperanto! It is an entirely new fine dining experience.

You will shortly be seeing a revamped reception and gaming floor, with significant works scheduled to enhance the spaces and ensure a fantastic welcome for all our Members and guests.

Finally, to round off the changes, in April we will be welcoming a new tenant into the space on the Mezzanine Level formerly known as Sports Bar, with Kogaroo relocating their unique gift and souvenir retail business from across the road. The Club has developed a mutually beneficial relationship with CEO and founder of Kogaroo, Peter Lee, over the past 12 months and we are confident that the lease arrangement will bring substantial benefits to our Club. For more information and to find out about an exclusive offer for City Tatts Members, please check out the article on page 60 of this issue.

AGM
Our Annual General Meeting is just around the corner and the date has been set for Thursday 28th May at 6.00pm in the Gadigal Room on Level 2 of the Club house. The final date for Board nominations is Thursday 4th April. The Board ballot will be determined, as usual, by a postal vote by all eligible Members. The results of the Board election will be announced on Monday 11th May on the Club’s website.

A resolution to be put at the AGM will seek to confirm Members to Life Membership.

BOONOONA
With the ski season rapidly approaching, why not consider a trip to our Boonoona Ski Lodge, which is right in the heart of Perisher Valley?

Our Lodge Managers, Matt and Luanne, can’t wait to welcome you into your winter home for some great stories and wholesome home-cooked meals – which, according to many, are one of the major reasons they keep going back.

Remember, Boonoona is yours to enjoy and a perfect platform to spend some quality time with family and friends at great rates.

DEVELOPMENT
We hope to have the determination of the City of Sydney Council before the next edition of this magazine, so keep an eye out for the Club’s news in this regard.

SPONSORSHIPS
For the 2019 season, we are especially proud to be sponsoring women’s rugby at Sydney University FC as last year’s minor premiers look to go one better this year. Although the funding from our Club will be put towards the women’s team, the benefits for our Members will be reflected throughout the SUFC setup. We have secured 20 complimentary tickets for each home men’s and women’s game for the regular Shute Shield season, as well as several Waratahs Super Rugby tickets which will be available on a fair basis to ensure Members get an equal opportunity to enjoy the atmosphere over the course of the season. City Tatts Members will have a marquee and casual covered family seating at each home game. In addition, our logo will be on the shirts of both the men’s and women’s sides as well as brand presence around the ground.

For those of you who enjoy Rugby Union, this is good news. If you have yet to discover the joys of watching 15 men or women chasing an egg-shaped ball around a pitch in a full-blooded affair, perhaps this is the year you will be converted. For more details, peruse the article on page 44 of this edition.

This year, City Tattersalls Club is also supporting North Narrabeen Surf Life Saving Club (NNSLSC). Surf Lifesaving Clubs perform an incredible function in Sydney life, allowing us to safely enjoy our beaches.

The partnership gives us the opportunity to promote our Club as the preferred entertainment venue in the Sydney CBD as we engage with many business people involved with NNSLSC commuting to the CBD each day for work. Other benefits include extensive television exposure through the likes of Fox Sports, naming rights for the men’s Ocean Thunder team (City Tatts North Narrabeen SLSC) and branding on the boat itself. You can find out more by reading the fantastic article on page 38 of this magazine.

VALE SAM MARANDO
It is with deep sadness that I share news of the passing of former City Tatts barber Sam Marando. Sam was the Club’s barber from 1977 until his retirement in 2002. Sam always spoke highly of his time at the Club and the friendships he made here. We extend our sincerest condolences to Sam’s family and friends.

RIDE4CEYLON
Congratulations to eight Members of the CTC Cycling Club who, at time of print, are joining around 40 riders from Australia, US, UK and Sri Lanka on a 420km road cycling effort from Colombo to Jaffna. The ride is to raise further funding to redevelop the historic Green Memorial hospital in Jaffna, one of the oldest hospitals in Sri Lanka. As part of the ride, participants will visit a number of orphanages, schools and charities and distribute clothes, educational aids and sporting equipment in order to brighten up the lives of children in these organisations. A generous effort from some of the members of our newest Sub-Club.

Please come and see for yourself the exciting changes that are continuing to happen in our Club house.
